Pulau Pangkil Kecil is a delightful little island located close to Singapore in Indonesia. When you hire Pangkil - and you can only hire it as a whole - you get the lot: all the driftwood palaces (our luxury accommodation), the bar, the sound systems, the pool, kayaks, snorkeling equipment, speedboats, kitchen and more than twenty staff ! Truly "Survivor with maids and butlers". Pulau Pangkil offers nine elegant, detached driftwood palaces, all of which have unobstructed sea views. None are more than five paces from the beach. We have a perfect blend of luxury and simplicity - even the tree house has a four-poster bed, fans and electric lights. Pulau Pangkil can accommodate between ten and thirty people in comfort. The weather is the same as Singapore but remember you will be outside. The sea breezes are usually more than enough to take the edge off the tropical heat. In fact we suggest bringing a light jacket during the winter months, December and January. We are often asked about safety and security issues. Indonesia is a vast, diverse archipelago with some of the friendliest inhabitants in Asia. It is unfortunate that international media attention sometimes focuses on negative issues. We are thousands of miles from the political hot spots. Riau is one of the richest and advanced provinces in the country. Guests stay in our Driftwood Palaces, so called because the uprights and structural members really were salvaged from the sea. There are nine Palaces, none of which are more than five paces from the beach. The Palaces are all of an above-ground and open construction to take advantage of the prevailing breezes and views, yet are sufficiently far apart and cleverly designed to ensure complete privacy. They all feature at least one, large four-poster bed. The four-posters generally have a small fan and reading lamps inside the mosquito netting for maximum convenience. Most have roof-mounted fans as well. They all have their own adjacent showers and flush toilets. There are currently 13 king-size (double) four-poster beds spread across the Palaces. Additionally the Big House has 2 king-size day beds which can (and often are) converted into comfortable night time beds. For large groups there are at least 6 additional single beds which can be moved around as well as extra mattresses. Numerous hammocks and a few tents add additional flexibility.We have had as many as 30 adults sleep on the island. The delightful freshwater pool amazes all who see it. Hand-built over a period of two years, it lies amongst a number of natural boulders. It is situated on the northern end of the island next to a small beach and is accessible only through a 'Zen-like' tunnel. There is a gazebo overlooking the pool which is often used by those choosing to have one of our professional massages. It is also a great spot for reading, gazing out over the ocean or napping.
